APT Macau Woos Olympian Great – Michael Phelps.

In his spare time (apparently he does have some!), Olympic US swimmer Michael Phelps can be found playing online poker.  With his reign as Olympic Champion Gold Medal world record breaker, his next goal is to compete in a World Series of Poker Championship someday.

Before heading back to the States from Beijing, he might be making his first live poker appearance by making a stop in Macau for the Asian Poker Tour (APT).  Phelps has been offered a seat to play in the 2008 APT hosted by The StarWorld Hotel and Casino in Macau to play in the biggest poker tournament in Asia.  It will be held August 27th through August 31st and boasts a $1.5 Million Guaranteed with a $5,300 buy-in.

Pre-celebration activities begin Tuesday, August 26th when one of the APT Poker Room’s opens up with a special appearance by poker legend Doyle Brunson signing books for all of his loyal fans.  Following the book signing will be a Celebrity Poker Challenge benefitting the Caritas de Macau, a social services organization which Brunson will be participating in.   Also in attendance will be four time World Boxer Champion title holder Manny Pacquiao (although not a huge fan of boxing, my boyfriend tells me Pacquiao is really fierce in the ring).  Poker pros Todd Brunson, Kenny Tran, J.C. Tran, John Juanda, Quinn Do and woman poker players, Tila Tequila and Liz Lieu will be see in the action as well.
